Support Groups

There are many support groups for individuals with Parkinson's disease, family members and/or significant others throughout Massachusetts.  All groups welcome new members. Each group is unique, based on many factors including group leadership, location, and longevity- to name a few. Some groups serve special populations for example the "young onset PD group" and the "Deep Brain Stimulation Group" Most groups follow a "self help model" meaning that they are member-run, members own and operate the group. Some groups receive guidance and support from health care professionals. For example, a social worker or nurse is available to the group to assist with facilitation.  Participating in a support group is a wonderful way to receive practical information and education on living with Parkinson's disease. More importantly members receive the support of others who truly understand.

The Massachusetts Chapter and APDA Information and Referral Center at Boston University Medical Center are committed to the development and ongoing support of groups in Massachusetts.  If you are interested in learning more about a specific group please call 617-638-8466 or 800-651-8466.

There are areas in the state that do not have nearby support groups. If you or someone you know is interested in helping to organize a group, call the I&R Center and we will get you on the way to facilitating a successful group!
